Who We Are
Greetings from the Project Director,
I am delighted to share with you the story behind the inception of Rafique Academy. It was conceptualized by Barrister G R Mahmood and his family members based in the United States as a means to provide education and healthcare to underprivileged children in the Rotna Palong locality of Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar district in Bangladesh. The academy is supported by the Rafique Foundation for Education and Healthcare US, a non-profit organization dedicated to this noble cause. As a privately founded non-profit education project, Rafique Academy stands out as a unique initiative in Cox’s Bazar district. It aims to advance learning through teaching and hands-on training for the benefit of the children. Its mission is to create values through uplifting society’s moral and educational enlightenment on a global scale. Drawing strength from its distinctive, learning-based structure and juxtaposition of Bangladeshi national and international curricula since its inception in 2021, Rafique Academy has consistently developed its teaching and learning capacity to cater to the children of Rotna Palong. In the long run, its vision is to outgrow itself as a mainstream centre of education with a full-fledged boarding school and make significant contributions to the local and global community.
Teachers at Rafique Academy’s expertise encompasses primary and middle school science, math, English, Bangla, and extra-curricular activities. In each of these areas, the academy has been working with national and international education experts and continuing to advance knowledge. The academy believes that it will make a positive impact on the overall education system of Cox’s Bazar by creating global standards in education and aspiring to be a centre of excellence.

—Who We Are
Rafique Foundation for Education and Healthcare USA is a family-funded, US-based non-profit organization established by Barrister G.R. Mahmood and his family. The foundation’s Bangladesh chapter is dedicated to transforming lives through free, high-quality education and healthcare for underprivileged communities, especially girls.
With a deep commitment to service and equity, the foundation runs Dr. Rafique Jahan Mahmood Girls High School and Barrister G.R. Mahmood Elementary School in Ratna Palong, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. These institutions operate under the belief that education is a fundamental right—not a privilege—and strive to unlock potential, foster empowerment, and build resilient futures for children in one of Bangladesh’s most underserved areas.
